Woman Grateful As Company Provides RM50,000 To Cover Father's Tumour Surgery
"They didn't just give us money. They gave us hope," she said.
A Malaysian woman recently opened up about how her workplace provided crucial support when her family faced a life-threatening health crisis
In a heartfelt post on Threads, Sheena Saiful recounted how her employer came through for her when her father was diagnosed with a tumour the size of a tennis ball near his brain in 2018.
"On top of that, he had a heart condition. The doctors told us he needed two surgeries, and fast," she wrote.
The first surgery, addressing his heart condition, was successful. However, the second surgery to remove the tumour posed a significant financial burden, with costs coming up to RM50,000.
"We didn't have that kind of money. And waiting two years at a government hospital wasn't an option — he wouldn't survive that long," Sheena explained.
Her father tried to raise the funds himself despite his fragile health, reaching out to friends and taking on work. However, time was running out as his headaches worsened.

Amid the chaos, Sheena remembered her company's emergency relief fund (ERF)
When she suggested it to her father, he initially refused, believing others needed it more. However, Sheena submitted an application anyway, unsure if it would even be considered.
To her surprise, her employer responded swiftly, requesting further details about her father's condition, such as medical letters, bills, and diagnoses.
Just a few days later, she received life-changing news:
"Your ERF request was reviewed by the ERF council and approved for the full amount requested, ie RM50,000."

Tragically, her father did not survive the surgery
"Life had other plans. His heart gave out during the procedure. I lost him that day. But what my company did for us changed my life," Sheena shared.
Despite her grief, Sheena expressed profound gratitude for her employer's support.
"They didn't just give us money. They gave us hope. To my dad: I miss you every day. I hope I'm making you proud. And to the company that helped us: Thank you. You made me believe in kindness again," she wrote.
Sheena told SAYS that she had been working for the US-based company operating in Malaysia for four years when she applied for the relief fund. She added that the company never asked for repayment.
The story struck a chord with many netizens, who extended their condolences to Sheena and praised the company's employee support initiative
Several also shared their own stories of receiving help from their employers during tough times.

"My husband's company did something similar, they gave us RM50,000 for our child's heart surgery. We were at a dead end and decided to try (submitting an application), not expecting much. But, Alhamdulillah, God made it possible. We never thought his boss would actually approve it," one person shared.
