Harith's Ex-Wife Says Death Threats Against Their Children Forced Cancellation Of His Show
"Karma will run its course — what you give, you will eventually receive," she warned the individuals behind the abuse and hate.
The decision to cancel comedian Harith Iskander's show at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS was due to death threats targeting their family, including vile threats against their children, his ex-wife revealed
Dr Jezamine Lim, who also serves as Harith's manager, expressed her and Harith's deep disappointment over the cancellation while emphasising that it was the best decision for their family's safety.
"This past week, I received a death threat directed at me, but what cut deeper and shook me to my core was a vile threat of abuse against our children," she wrote in a statement on her Instagram account.
"Let me be crystal clear: threatening the safety of innocent children crosses every imaginable line. It is despicable, cowardly, and inhumane," she said, adding that they have lodged police reports.
She refrained from commenting further on the details of the threats, but she noted that the decision to cancel the show was made in collaboration with the Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS to prioritise safety.
"Relentless online attacks and mob mentality"
According to Jezamine, the threats stemmed from ongoing online abuse directed at Harith and his family by certain individuals. She lamented the rise of "mindless mob mentality".
"It saddens me to see people so consumed by hate that they dedicate hours to trolling, spreading anger, and writing abusive comments," she said, questioning how such actions could be justified.
"Yes, you have every right to disagree with or be offended by someone's words — emotions are natural — but to sink so low as to send threats to a person's family? To target children? How do you justify that? Is this truly what you believe protects your religion or your beliefs?
"I was taught Allah asked Muslims to be kind to all people, regardless of their actions or status. Kindness is a virtue that reflects Allah's own merciful and compassionate nature," she noted.
She shared that the decision to cancel the show was especially devastating for Harith, who had poured months of preparation into it
The cancellation also meant that their sons, Zander and Zydane, who were slated to be part of the opening act, were unable to showcase their performance.
Jezamine also expressed gratitude to those who have supported their family during this challenging time, noting that the kindness and compassion shown by strangers provided them with strength.
She reiterated her trust in the authorities to handle the matter professionally and emphasised the importance of focusing on family, safety, and the love and support they continue to receive.
"To the individuals behind the abuse and hate, I hope one day you find peace within yourselves. Karma will run its course — what you give, you will eventually receive," she added.
While many expressed sympathy and support for Harith and his family, some netizens responded critically to Jezamine's statement
One commenter wrote, "Tell him, next time he needs to think wisely before making a lame joke."
Another added, "This is not the first time Harith did such humiliation to Islam. And did he repent and learn the lesson? NO. He did it again. I believe PETRONAS' decision is professional and wise. I don't see [how] what happened to your family & children (threats) [is] related to PETRONAS' decision. And to Harith, multiple chances were given to you and you ignored. So, serves you right by your own actions."
