Dating has always caused people a fair share of heartache when seeking out a partner.

And with dating apps opening a whole new world of potential options, the problems have only grown over the years.

One woman from KL recently took to an anonymous confessions page on Facebook, Tantan Confessions Malaysia, to express her own frustrations when it comes to dating.

Providing a couple of past experiences as examples, the woman went on to communicate her entanglement with two men from Melaka and Penang. After making different plans to meet up, both attempts went awry when each of them didn't hold up their end of the promise.

While both instances posed different problems to their respective situations, one of them may have caused the woman to lose a lot more time, money, and patience, as she drove all the way to Melaka, only to get ghosted by her new beau once she arrived.

"I don't want to generalise all men, but what is wrong with all the guys I've been going out with recently?" the woman wrote in the beginning of her post

Beginning with the tale of the man she met online from Melaka, the woman disclosed how after getting to know each other for about four to five months, the duo made the decision to meet in person. Following an attempt to meet a month earlier, the woman stated that his busy work schedule prevented him from coming down to KL.

Deciding to make things easier for him, she found a free day for herself and chose to go to Melaka on her own accord to ease his travel issues.

"We even set up a place and time to meet, but as I was approaching Melaka, he told me that something came up — and asked me to hang around for awhile, saying if he had time later, he'd meet up with me," she wrote.

Having driven interstate and through the rain to meet him, the woman had an iffy feeling as to whether he was actually going to turn up, as he said he'd meet up with her "if he had the time".

After waiting around for about an hour, and with the guy not responding to any of her texts, she decided to leave Melaka and head back to KL

When she arrived back in KL, the confessor said she finally received a text from the guy who ditched her, and could tell that his reasoning for not meeting her was just a cover to not make things unpleasant.

"I understand. He didn't text me back after that, so I didn't reach out to him anymore. I'm not the kind of person to force something if it's clearly not happening," she concluded.

Moving on to her second story with another guy she met online from Penang, the confessor said she was initially swayed by his seemingly sincere demeanour

"Awhile after we started talking, he asked me if I'd be interested in getting together with him officially, and I told him that it was too early — especially because we haven't met yet," she wrote.

Noting that he took her response in stride, the confessor stated that the guy immediately promised to drive to KL and meet her in person soon. Though they agreed to a date, the man started to backtrack once the day approached, coming up will all kinds of excuses.

"At first he said he didn't have money for petrol, but later said it was a joke. He then said that he was afraid it would be boring if he came to KL, adding that he was scared I wouldn't treat him well once he arrived.

"In the end, he suggested that I should come to Penang instead. What kind of man is this?" she complained.

Ending her entire rant, the woman asked if there are any normal men left in the world, or if she may be the problem in the whole situation.

"Is it me? Am I choosing guys who are just problematic?"

Garnering a slew of responses, many people chimed in on their take as to which party bears the bigger responsibility in these instances

A number of responders comforted and affirmed the confessor through her struggles, with one Facebook user saying that she should just pass on other men who display similar behaviour.

"It's a good thing you didn't agree to a relationship! You have to get to know each other much better before making such a commitment. Otherwise, it would have been a waste of your youth," they wrote.

Another person said that some men are just intimidated by women who are more assertive when dating. "When we decide to take the initiative, they get scared. It's hard to date like this!" she penned with a laughing emoji.

One user sought to express their own take on the deficient character in both men. "The one in Melaka probably has a girlfriend, the one in Penang just has no money," they wrote.

However, a couple of others said that the woman did hold some responsibility for these dates failing, as she was choosing men outside of her state. "You are looking for men who can't reach you. There are many men in KL too, you know," said one person.

Taking it a step further, one user stated that there is either something wrong with the confessor or the places she's opting to find these men.

"It's obvious that when the time came, these guys weren't interested to meet you because of something about you or them."

Of all the entertaining comments, one of the best came from a man who offered himself as an option for the girl, saying that he hails from KL, therefore she would not need to travel far.

"You don't have to go to another state. We can go and grab a meal together, anytime!"
