This Dish Sponge And Detergent Set Found In Kuching Is Not What It Seems
Never let them know your next move.
A cafe in Kuching is literally giving 'pencuci mulut' a whole new meaning
KANTIN at The Granary, a cafe situated in Kuching, Sarawak, has a special dessert that could quite literally clean your palate after a delicious meal: a dish sponge and detergent soap.
Yep, you read that right.
The cafe introduced a rather special yet unusual menu item, served by a waiter wearing yellow dish gloves squirting lime-green soap over a sudsy dish sponge.
At first glance, it doesn't look like anything anyone would eat, but after the first bite, you'd be eager to finish it off.

In actuality, the 'soapy sponge' is actually a delicious lemon butter cake!
The 'sponge' is a lemon butter cake with English orange marmalade, topped with 'sudsy' lemon foam. The 'detergent' squeezed onto the cake is a pandan-lime syrup.
Though much cleaner and more delicious than an actual dish sponge, the resemblance is uncanny.

The dessert has since gone viral all over social media, with netizens in awe at how much the cake looks like the real thing
In a TikTok made by @wankatravel, netizens were fairly convinced that the 'detergent' squirted over the cake was actual soap, judging by how they could barely tell the difference in colour and consistency.
One user commented, "Imagine if a new staff serving took the wrong soap."

One user jokingly said that it was the cafe's way of asking customers to wash their own dishes.

Another said the only way to eat the cake is to convince yourself that it is, in fact, a cake.
