11-Year-Old Suffers Cochlear Concussion After Allegedly Being Slapped By Teacher
His mother said his hopes of becoming a national swimmer have suddenly been dashed.
A mother has alleged that her 11-year-old son, an aspiring swimmer, has suffered a concussion in his ear after being slapped by a teacher
She took to Facebook to share her disappointment and anger over the incident, having filed a police report in Bagan Serai, Perak, about the matter.
In her post, Syahmina Mohd Azim shared that her son, Amirul Akil, had been training intensively to compete in national competitions, but his hopes of becoming a national swimmer have suddenly been dashed.
"He is the only representative from Kerian who has met national qualifying times and has a Malaysia Swimming Federation ID number for swimming events," said the proud mother.
"But it all came crashing down in an instant. Now, every time he swims, he loses balance, experiences nosebleeds, headaches, and ringing in his ears," she wrote.

The mother claimed that her son was injured by a teacher in his school, SK Jalan Matang Buluh, on 10 December 2024
According to the statement Syahmina provided to the police, Akil had accidentally touched the male teacher's back after nearly falling down, but the teacher misunderstood and reacted by slapping and striking the primary school student in the head.
Syahmina shared that since then, her son has experienced persistent vomiting, headaches, and nosebleeds.
She detailed that he had multiple soft tissue injuries, including to the back of his head and neck, and had a swollen right cheek and right ear.
"Even the right side of his jaw was swollen, making it painful for him to chew his food," she said. She added that a CT scan and X-ray were done at Taiping Hospital, which showed no further abnormalities.

However, Syahmina said the symptoms persisted. Akil has not been able to attend school, let alone his swimming training and competitions as scheduled.
"Finally, on 13 January, we took him to Taiping Hospital again because he couldn't stop vomiting, having severe headaches, and ringing in his ears. He himself begged to go to the hospital because he couldn't bear it any longer.
"After the examinations, the doctor told us that the slaps and punches he endured have most likely caused a cochlear concussion in his ear, showing symptoms similar to a brain concussion," she said.
The heartbroken mother shared that they are currently pursuing justice and are urging for accountability from the school and the teacher for his actions.

Meanwhile, Kerian district police chief Supt Juna Yusoff has confirmed receiving a police report regarding the case
"The student's mother made a police report on 10 December, alleging that her son was assaulted by his 30-year-old male teacher. However, she withdrew the statement on 11 December as she did not want to prolong the case.
"Recently, however, the complainant has come forward once again to lodge a report, requesting the investigation to continue and for further action to be taken against the male teacher involved," he said in a statement on Thursday, 23 January.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
