A 20-year-old was recently arrested for impersonating a doctor at a vaccination centre in Sarawak

According to Harian Metro, Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail confirmed the incident and said that the man was arrested at 3pm on Thursday, 1 July, after authorities received information from a Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel.

The man had pretended to be a doctor from the Sarawak General Hospital and went to report for duty at the Stadium Perpaduan COVID-19 Vaccination Centre in Petra Jaya

See Hua Daily reported that the man had his own stamp, name card, coat, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other essentials.

After having made initial inquiries at the vaccination centre, he returned to the location on 16 June and said that higher-ups had stationed him there.

On 19 June, he allegedly manned the registration counter at the vaccination centre without authorisation from the staff present.

However, the report did not state whether he had administered any vaccine shots or had carried out any other medical procedures.

Suspicions began to arise on 22 June when the suspect mingled with other doctors and they found out that he was only 20 years old.

When questioned by the police, the suspect said that he pretended to be a doctor because it had been his ambition and he studied medicine online.

The case is being investigated under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant

Considering that he is under 21 years old, no confession was recorded while waiting for the probation report to be released.

The case is scheduled to be mentioned in the magistrate's court on 17 August.
