Ampang Jaya district police have arrested a man for allegedly groping and molesting a 13-year-old girl at her home in Ampang, Selangor

The 32-year-old suspect, who works as a newspaper seller, was arrested on Saturday, 25 March.

In a statement yesterday, 26 March, Ampang Jaya district police chief ACP Mohamad Farouk Eshak said that the incident happened towards the end of December last year but a police report was lodged recently.

According to Mohamad Farouk, the man is a foreign national and the victim is local.

The suspect was arrested along Jalan Air Jernih, Setapak and has been remanded for seven days to facilitate the investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017.

According to the facts of the case, the newspaper seller had gone to the teen girl's home at about 7am and entered her bedroom

"He then groped her, touching her body, arms, and hugging her," New Straits Times quoted Mohamad Farouk as saying, adding that the suspect then gave the victim RM50 as compensation to keep her quiet.

If convicted, the suspect faces 20 years in jail and whipping
