74-Year-Old Teacher Loses RM225K After Falling Prey To Scammer Pretending To Be Lee Min-Ho

A retired school teacher has been left RM225,000 poorer after falling victim to an online scammer who posed as K-pop star Lee Min-ho
Machang district police chief Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the 74-year-old woman had befriended the suspect on Facebook last year, reported Utusan Malaysia.
He added that the retired teacher communicated with the imposter through Facebook Messenger.
"Last October, the suspect started requesting the victim to transfer money, claiming he was facing a court trial and informing the victim that a substantial amount of money was needed to settle the case," Utusan Malaysia quoted Mohd Adli as saying.
Out of sympathy for her favourite K-pop idol, the victim made six money transfers, totalling RM225,000, into an account over a two-month period
Mohd Adli said the victim realised she had been duped only after making the transfers.
"The victim then filed a report at the Machang district police headquarters on 12 December," he said.
"The police are tracking down the syndicate involved, and the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating," he added.
