CCTV footage that surfaced yesterday, 20 August, revealed that two missing boys had jammed a lift door, causing them to be trapped for nine hours before being found by security guards

The timestamp on the CCTV indicates that the incident occurred at 2.14pm on Monday, 19 August.

In a one-minute-46-second video uploaded on Facebook, one of the boys can be seen placing his blue slipper between the lift doors as they are closing.

He then pulls the slipper out and falls to the ground while trying to remove it. Both boys appear panicked as the doors shut. They press several buttons, but the lift remains on the fourth floor.

The caption of the CCTV footage mentions that the lift activated its auto-lock system once an object was stuck between the doors.

The CCTV footage was uploaded to social media after the boys' nine-hour ordeal made headlines nationwide

According to Harian Metro, the incident occurred at an apartment in Desa Petaling, Kuala Lumpur when the boys, Faiq Adiwira, 11, and his friend, 10, wanted to buy pau at a nearby shop.

However, before the boys could get to the shop, they got caught in the lift.

The boys had left their homes around 2pm and had not returned home by 10pm, prompting their families to search for them and lodge police reports. They were found at 1am.

Faiq's mother, Fospaliza Md Sariff, said the boys tried to call for help through the intercom system but there was no response. As a result, they cried until they fell asleep.

She said she did not expect her son and his friend to be trapped in the lift, even though adults had been trapped in the same lift before.

Below is CCTV footage showing the boys sleeping in the lift:

Fospaliza expressed hope for the security guards at the apartment to be more attentive to the safety of the residents

Speaking to Sinar Harian, the mother said the security guards only responded with "I don't know... I don't know..." while she was looking for Faiq.

When the boys were found in the lift, Fospaliza said the security guards did not inform her.

"The lift didn't open itself but the lift operator and the security guards opened it. They then sent Faiq home without informing me," she said.

Fospaliza expressed relief that Faiq and his friend are safe and ready to go back to school.
