Man Arrested After Wife & Daughter's Bodies Found In Drain At Abandoned Building In Kedah
Police found a third body yesterday, believed to be the suspect's youngest child.
Two bodies were found in a drain behind an abandoned building near Pekan Simpang Kuala in Alor Setar, Kedah on Monday, 19 August
According to Harian Metro, Kota Setar district police chief ACP Siti Nor Salawati Saad said the police were notified of the discovery by members of the public. The bodies belonged to a 34-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl.
"Investigations at the scene revealed that the two bodies were fully clothed and did not have any identification documents on them. They were found lying close to each other in a small drain.
"Both victims had slash wounds on their necks," she said in a statement.
The bodies were subsequently sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Based on police intelligence, a 43-year-old Myanmar national, who is the husband and father of the victims, was arrested later that night
Bernama reported Kedah deputy police chief DCP Adzli Abu Shah as saying that preliminary investigations revealed the suspect had been living with his wife and three children in the abandoned building for the past week.
The suspect's 5-year-old son was found safe with the man when he was arrested at 9pm on Monday night.
However, the police discovered a third body at a nearby beach on Tuesday, 20 August, believed to be the suspect's youngest child
The body of the 2-year-old boy was found at Pantai Leman, Kuala Kedah at 12pm yesterday.
"The initial examination of the child's body revealed slash wounds similar to those on the two bodies found [on Monday]. Therefore, we believe the child is the suspect's youngest son and will conduct a DNA test to confirm the victim's identity," said Adzli.
He added that all the victims are believed to have been murdered on Sunday, 18 August.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. The suspect, who tested positive for drugs, is under remand until 26 August.
The police chief added that domestic violence is believed to be the motive behind the murders, not organised crime, and urged the public to refrain from speculating about the state being unsafe, which could cause undue distress to the community.
