A 10-year-old Orang Asli girl, who was reported missing on Friday, 16 August, has been found dead in a swampy area near her village, Kampung Bersah, Pos Kuala Mu, in Perak.

According to her autopsy results, she was raped before she was murdered.

Sungai Siput police chief Supt Mohd Khaizam Ahmad Shahabudin said police received a missing person report for the girl from the chairman of the Orang Asli Village Development and Security Committee at 1.20am on Saturday, 17 August, after the child had gone missing since Friday afternoon.

The New Straits Times reported that the victim was last seen heading to a store to buy chicken by herself around 3pm, before returning home empty-handed because the store had run out of chicken.

It is understood her uncle went to another store to buy chicken and left her to play alone at a nearby playground.

Her body was found at 4.20pm on Saturday, after a search and rescue operation was launched early that morning

The search covered a 2km radius around the Orang Asli village and involved the police K9 unit, local agencies, and residents.

The body of the Standard Four student was found in a swamp area, about 100m from the last house of the village, by a member of the public participating in the search.

The police have since detained a 27-year-old man related to the victim and a 17-year-old teenager from the same village

According to the New Straits Times, following the autopsy results from Sungai Siput Hospital, the case has been reclassified under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The autopsy results revealed neck injuries and signs of genital trauma.

The police have also called in several individuals to provide statements to assist in the investigation.
