Police have arrested a 30-year-old man suspected of inciting members of the public to climb over security barriers before the National Day celebrations at Dataran Putrajaya on Monday, 31 August
According to FMT, Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said the man, a cook, was arrested in Putrajaya at 12.15am today, 2 September, after five police reports were lodged over the incident.
The man had allegedly incited members of the crowd to breach security barriers to get seats at the parade seating area, resulting in a surge that caused several people to be knocked down and injured.
Viral videos show that the man, in an orange shirt, had allegedly pushed his way to the front of the crowd waiting since 5am
In the video, he could be heard saying: "Why don't you climb over? It's not like we're going to get caught. Until what time should we be waiting here like this?"
Fadil said the man is being investigated under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for statements conducive to public mischief, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities, and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 for insulting behaviour.
The man also tested positive for cannabis following his arrest and is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug use.
He has since been remanded for one day.
Police have also urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.
