According to White Deer Video, a media outlet from Shaanxi, the boy was told to busk in the streets to earn money to pay for the damages.
The boy, from China's northwestern Shaanxi province, had doodled on a newly renovated school wall.
The boy's parents decided on the unique punishment to teach their son to take responsibility for his actions.
Videos of the boy performing began circulating in China since 17 May.

Speaking to a local media outlet, White Deer Video, the boy's father, Huang, said he hopes his son grows up to be a responsible person.
"My son drew on a wall that was being renovated at his primary school. After speaking to the school, we agreed to pay for the damages. Through these street performances, we hope he understands the importance of taking responsibility for his actions."
The boy's parents earned widespread praise for their unique teaching method after videos of the boy's performances went viral
"Kudos to this teaching method that encourages the son to take responsibility for his actions," a Weibo user commented on one of the videos, according to South China Morning Post.
Some observed that the busking experience will help the boy improve his musical abilities and confidence.
"Busking can help the boy become confident and a better guitar player. It's a win-win solution," another user wrote.
