Couple In Selangor Spends Over RM42,000 & Buys iPhone After Stealing Pensioner's ATM Card
They made 23 transactions using the pensioner's card, spending a total of RM46,000.
A pensioner in Kuala Langat fell victim to an unscrupulous man, who, along with a woman, spent RM46,000 using the victim's ATM card
They spent the money through various transactions, including buying an iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Ahmad Ridhwan Mohd Nor @ Salleh said the incident happened last Saturday, 25 March, after the suspect stole the ATM card from a pensioner.
Prior to the incident, the 62-year-old was trying to withdraw cash from an ATM in Banting, when his card got stuck. At the time, a stranger, who happened to be at the location, offered to help the victim.
The man, believed to be in his 30s, managed to extract the card before handing it to the unsuspecting victim, who did not realise that the man had switched the cards before handing a fake one to him.
The 62-year-old only realised something was wrong when he went to another ATM to make a withdrawal on the same day but could not do so
"The victim referred to the bank teller at the counter, who determined that the card in the victim's possession did not belong to him," Berita Harian quoted Ridhwan as saying today, 29 March.
The pensioner lodged a police report on Monday, 27 March.

The suspect made 23 transactions using the victim's ATM card
The transactions were made from 25 to 27 March.
One of the transactions was for the purchase of an iPhone from a shop in Kapar, Klang.
Ridhwan said that closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, showing a man and a woman, with a child, making a purchase of an iPhone 13 Pro Max using the victim's ATM card, had gone viral.
Police are tracking down the male suspect.
"The case is being investigated under Section 4 of the Computer Crimes Act 1997," Ridhwan added.
