The victim claimed the couple returned his wallet only after facing mounting pressure from the public.
A couple who used a missing credit card on a shopping spree has returned it to its rightful owner after photos of them were exposed online
According to Guang Ming Daily, the owner of the credit card lost his wallet at a restaurant in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur on 17 March.
However, because he always uses his mobile phone to pay for things and spent a day moving to a new place, he did not realise he had lost his wallet until two days later.
Upon checking his credit card bills online, he found out that his credit card had been used multiple times on 17 March and 18 March.
He filed a police report over the matter and contacted his bank to freeze the credit card. The victim also went to several drugstores, where his credit card was used, to obtain closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of the individuals using his card.
It was then he realised that a young couple had picked up his credit card and gone on a shopping spree.
The CCTV footage showed the boyfriend standing on the sidelines while his girlfriend paid for items with the victim's credit card.
The duo then left the store with big bags of goods.
Upset by the situation, the victim then uploaded photos of the couple on social media to ask for netizens' help to identify them
The move was deemed helpful because the social media post went viral and captured the couple's attention, reported China Press.
Due to mounting pressure from the public, the victim claimed that the couple decided to return his wallet as well as compensate him with some money.
"(The compensation includes) the cost of petrol (for driving around the city) to search for the CCTV footage, lost wages for not going to work because of this incident, and the cost of reissuing the card, among others," he revealed in a social media post yesterday, 20 March.
In exchange, the victim said that the couple requested for him to delete his earlier posts, to which he obliged.
He hoped that netizens will look at this matter rationally after the couple had admitted fault.
