'Datuk' Beats Up Couple For Asking Him To Lower His Voice In A Steamboat Restaurant

The police are currently trying to identify the assailants.

Videos showing a 'Datuk' assaulting a couple in a steamboat restaurant in Petaling Jaya, Selangor are going viral on Facebook

In a 51-second long video, a middle-aged man — known to his friends as a 'Datuk' — can be seen hitting a young man, while people around him tried to hold him back.

While being restrained, the 'Datuk' continues shouting at the young man and pointing his finger at him.

If that is not enough, before his friends can drag him out of the restaurant, he slaps a woman who is watching by the side. The woman is said to be the young man's girlfriend.

Seeing that his girlfriend has been assaulted, the young man confronts the 'Datuk' again, but this time, a man with long hair approaches him and swings a right hook at him in an attempt to intimidate him.

Employees at the restaurant can only stand aside to watch, while a few male customers can be seen trying to stop the altercation and filming the incident.

According to the caption of the video, the incident began when the couple politely asked the 'Datuk' and his friends to lower down their voice in the restaurant

The 'Datuk' and his friends were said to be drunk and were treating the waiters rudely on the night of the incident, which allegedly occurred on 12 January.

"Something unpleasant happened when my friend was about to finish eating," read the post written by a netizen who was not at the scene. They shared the incident on their friend's behalf.

"A young couple kindly asked the group to speak softly so that it would not affect other customers."

"One of them was a Datuk (the shortest person) and he was upset by it. He went out to make a phone call. As a result, two people in black clothes came. One of them was tall and had long hair."

"They came in and asked the waiters who told their friend not to speak loudly earlier. In the end, don't know what happened, but the long-haired man knew it was the young couple who made the complaint."

Following that, the Datuk and the long-haired man started attacking the young man.

"My friend said the hardest thing to swallow in the incident was that when the guy — who called himself 'Datuk' — was about to go out, he saw the boy's girlfriend, he went forward and slapped her viciously. I was also angry when I saw the video."

The person who posted the video urged netizens to share the video in order to find the assailants.

At the time of writing, the video has gone viral with over 9,200 shares.

The couple has since lodged a police report against the assailants

The restaurant is said to be located in Tropicana Avenue, reported China Press.

Petaling Jaya district police chief Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal Nordin confirmed to the Chinese daily that they have received the couple's police report, but revealed that they have yet to make any arrests as they are trying to identify the men involved in the incident.

The case is currently being investigated under Article 323 and Article 506 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and criminal intimidation.

If convicted, the suspects could face imprisonment of up to one and seven years for each offence respectively.
