Elmina Crash: Cockpit Voice Recorder Successfully Extracted In US With Very Clear Audio
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the 30-minute voice recording in the aircraft is very clear and in good condition.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) audio of the ill-fated private jet crash in the Elmina tragedy has been successfully extracted in the US
According to New Straits Times, Loke said the 30-minute voice recording of the Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1) that crashed near City Of Elmina, Shah Alam, on 17 August was very clear and in good condition.
Speaking to reporters at his ministry today, 29 August, Loke said the team from the Malaysian Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) managed to retrieve the data from the CVR during their visit to the aircraft manufacturer in Florida, reported Malaysiakini.
"The data was successfully downloaded and has been transmitted back (to Malaysia) via a safe e-mail system. The entire voice recording is now being processed, analysed, and investigated in our lab.
"We want to get the actual transcription of the data. We will analyse the voice recordings of the two pilots to ascertain what happened in the cockpit.
"It will then be investigated to identify the cause of the crash," New Straits Times quoted Loke as saying.
Loke said a preliminary report will be issued on his ministry's website in the coming two weeks, but the detailed final report will take up to a year to produce
Currently, AAIB head Brigadier-General Tan Chee Kee and his team are stranded in Florida due to a category 3 hurricane, but they are expected to arrive home at the end of this week.
Loke said while Tan has briefed him on the contents of the voice recordings, he is unable to make any conclusions yet, reported New Straits Times.
"I do not want to announce or speculate anything. Let our experts conduct a detailed analysis and we will put it in the preliminary report.
"I do not want to conclude anything until AAIB does its report," he said.
On 17 August, the Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1), registration number N28JV, crashed on the Guthrie Highway near City of Elmina while heading to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang from Langkawi.
Ten people were killed in the tragedy, two of which were road users.
