An elderly man and his son were charged at the Muar Sessions Court yesterday, 16 July, for allegedly taking turns to rape a girl in a car

The alleged crime was committed in Kluang about six years ago.

The accused, Mohd Hashim Saidin, 77, who is now a wheelchair user, and his son, Muhammad Firdaus Abdullah, 21, pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to them in front of Judge Abu Bakar Manat.

According to the charges, Muhammad Firdaus, who was 16 at the time, allegedly raped a 15-year-old teenage girl in Jalan Kinabalu, Kluang, at 5.15pm on 25 May 2017, reported Berita Harian.

Subsequently, Mohd Hashim committed the heinous act on the same victim in an open area near Kampung Abdul Rahman Yasin, Kluang, at 6pm on the same day, inside the same car.

As a result, the father and son duo were charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of 30 years in prison and 10 strokes of the cane.

Both father and son were then taken into custody after failing to pay the bail amounts of RM12,000 and RM15,000, respectively

The court has set 9 August for further hearing and document submission.

Danial Munir appeared for the prosecution while the two accused were unrepresented.

Meanwhile, the elderly man was heard telling the media to stop taking his photos as he was wheeled out of the Sessions Court.
