A female teacher died due to injuries sustained in an accident believed to have been caused by a pothole

According to the New Straits Times, the victim, 32-year-old Siti Sarah Mohamed Nuwawi, was riding her motorcycle along Jalan Gapam-Bemban, Melaka, yesterday, 7 May.

The crash occurred at around 11.20am when the victim, who was also the head teacher at the Islamic Care Centre (PASTI) Jasin Bestari, was travelling from Bemban to Gapam.

"Initial investigations suggest that the accident is believed to have occurred when the victim rode over an uneven surface of the road due to road damage, causing her to lose control, skid, and fall on the left side of the road.

"As a result, the victim suffered a serious head injury and was rushed to hospital for treatment before being confirmed dead at 4.20pm in the emergency unit," said Jasin police chief DSP Ahmad Jamil Radzi.

Ahmad Jamil stated that the police did not find any CCTV cameras at the scene.

He urged witnesses to come forward with information to assist the investigation by contacting the nearest police station, reported Berita Harian.

Many netizens shared Siti Sarah's obituary and offered their condolences.

In a Facebook statement yesterday, Malaysian actor-turned-activist Azlan Sani Zawawi urged the victim's family to take legal action against the responsible parties.

"I call on family members to sue the road owners and utility companies," said Azlan, who is also the founder of the Brotherhood, an organisation known for advocating on pothole and road safety issues in Malaysia.
