"It Was Traumatic" – Freak Storm Wreaks Havoc In Johor Bahru And Iskandar Puteri
The storm lasted about two hours.
A number of residences, shops, and vehicles were severely damaged by a sudden storm that slammed Johor Bahru and Iskandar Puteri yesterday afternoon, 30 November
Kampung Pasir residents shared their thoughts and feelings after the freak storm hit their houses amidst the current flash flood
A 48-year-old resident named Hishamudin Ma'in compared the incident yesterday to a "typhoon", indicating that the storm didn't stop for at least two hours.
"The wind was ferocious, and the roof of my house was blown off. The sky was so dark and the wind was so strong that we could not see anything outside," the father of five children said, as he explained it was the first time that area was hit by a storm of this magnitude.
Another resident, Zanariah Jaafar, 44, said that the storm caused her home to be flooded with water up to her knees, destroying the roof and porch area.
"My car was also damaged. It was a traumatic incident, but I am glad that my family escaped unscathed," the mother of two stated.

The head of the state housing and local government committee, Jafni Md Shukor, stated that the Johor state government was ready to help the victims who were impacted by the tragedy by using the state disaster funds.
He stated that the storm had damaged 19 roofs of units at the Pekaka Flats in Iskandar Puteri, 21 terrace houses in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah, and 20 homes in Kampung Pasir.
After the tragedy, no temporary evacuation centres were established.

Both Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) and Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP) acted swiftly to assist in cleaning the residents' houses
"Since the state government is responsible for fixing the damages to the apartments, it may be able to use the disaster fund to do so right away," Jafni said via Free Malaysia Today yesterday night while visiting the affected houses in Kampung Pasir.
"As for private homes, we can use the fund as well, with applications that were handled by the district office."
Before reporting the incident to the village head and penghulu for further action, Jafni advised the affected residents to file a police report and prepare a list of all damages.
