A boy has been hailed as a hero for saving two rabbits from a house fire in Kajang Utama, Selangor, on Friday, 6 September

The boy's heroic act was captured in a one-minute video uploaded by Balanagamma Punaimuthi on TikTok.

In the video, the boy can be seen scaling a concrete wall and stepping on tree branches as he rushes to cut open the cage where the rabbits are trapped.

He removes several items blocking the rabbits' escape before grabbing one and releasing it into the drain below.

The second rabbit moves to the other side of the cage, unaware that the boy is trying to rescue it.

After some struggle, which is not shown in the video, the boy manages to save the second rabbit, which has brown and white fur.

Speaking to SAYS, Balanagamma, 32, said the incident occurred at 1.20pm when she and her husband were heading to work

The couple then saw a house was on fire, with many bystanders looking on.

"Everyone was just looking. Nobody tried to help. There were birds and rabbits still trapped in the house.

"Before we began our rescue attempt, the birds had already died from the fire.

"My husband didn't want to let the rabbits die, so he dashed back home to get some equipment and asked his 17-year-old cousin, Jason, to help," she said when contacted today, 9 September.

Balanagamma said her husband threw the tools into the drain for Jason to use to cut open the rabbits' cage.

It took about 20 minutes to rescue the two rabbits

Balanagamma said her family rescued the rabbits because they are animal lovers, having raised peacocks, rabbits, turtles, chickens, fish, dogs, sugar gliders, and goats in their house and farm.

After the incident, she treated her cousin Jason with first aid as he was lightly burned during the rescue mission.

The rescued rabbits have since been reunited with their owner.
