Four siblings in Sarawak came together to build a new dream home for their single mother to thank her for raising them alone after their father passed away

Mohd Fikri Morni, 29, took the lead in spearheading the effort, alongside his elder brother, Mohd Tirmizi, 34, and their two sisters.

Pooling their savings, they managed to secure a bank loan to finance the construction of the home.

According to the New Straits Times, they constructed the new home to provide their mother with a more comfortable environment as their old house had become increasingly dilapidated.

"My father passed away when my mother was eight months pregnant with me, and since then, she has raised us single-handedly, initially [working] as a restaurant assistant before taking on a job as a student management assistant," Fikri said, adding, "With her income, she always tried to provide the best for the four of us."

Their old house, constructed by their dad 30 years ago, was falling apart

Fikri said they made the difficult decision to tear down the deteriorating house and rebuild the new one on the same site, describing it as bittersweet to let go of a home filled with so many cherished family memories.

Their mother, Dayang Sarimah Awang Ibrahim, 63, was initially hesitant about the idea, Fikri shared.

"But eventually, she gave in," he recounted, adding that the new home has been designed according to their mother's specifications, including her desire for four rooms and hotel-like bathrooms.

Construction began in July last year and was completed on 9 April, making this year's Hari Raya Aidilfitri particularly meaningful

They were able to celebrate it in their new home.

"Seeing our mother happy and tearful after the completion of the house made us emotional too, but we are satisfied that we got to make our mother happy while she is still with us," Harian Metro quoted Fikri as saying.
