"Half Greek, Half Malaysian" — Popular Tennis Player Nick Kyrgios Shares His Heritage
He and his girlfriend recently visited Batu Caves and KLCC.
Australia's professional tennis player, Nicholas Hilmy Kyrgios, also known as Nick Kyrgios, has earned widespread acclaim as a talented and entertaining player
In fact, he climbed to a career-high ranking of world No. 13 in 2016, with several major wins under his belt.
His biggest achievements include reaching the finals of a major tournament, the 2022 Wimbledon Championships, and a Masters 1000 event, the 2017 Cincinnati Masters.
Fun fact: he has beaten all three members of the legendary 'Big Three' in tennis — Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic.
Born in Canberra, Australia, the 29-year-old has a mixed heritage.
While his dad is from Greece, what many might not know is that his mum is actually Malaysian!
Nick shared a recent Instagram Story of him in baju Raya with a caption stating, "People always forget half Greek half Malaysian... Kygs in full baju Melayu."
His mum, who is known as Norlaila or Nil, was raised in Gombak, Selangor, and comes from the Pahang royal family.
According to the New Straits Times, it is believed that her grandfather was the cousin to the late Sultan of Pahang. Norlaila, who is a Tengku by birth, migrated to Australia in her 20s and married George Kyrgios, a self-employed house painter.
Aside from Kyrgios, they have two other children, Christos and Halimah.
Two days ago, Kygrios' girlfriend posted a series of Instagram Stories showing them visiting Batu Caves and the PETRONAS Twin Towers, as well as walking through Jalan Alor
In her Stories, she shared videos of a lok lok truck, them trying tanghulu, walking up the stairs at Batu Caves, and posing in front of the twin towers.
The athlete's sister, Halimah, also shared several photos of them visiting their Malaysian side of the family recently.
If you've been wondering why Kygrios has been absent on court lately, it's because he's been grappling with multiple injuries
According to The Sporting News, he is struggling with wrist and knee injuries and hasn't played a professional tennis match since June last year.
It's unclear when he will return to the court.
