The incident occurred in Hulu Klang.
21 kindergarten students and four teachers from a preschool in Kampung Klang Gate endured a frightening ordeal today, 15 October, after flash floods caused by heavy rain swept through their classroom
The Klang Valley has been experiencing continuous rainfall, resulting in waterlogging in several areas.
According to the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), several areas around Kampung Klang Gate were inundated by floodwaters due to the overflow of a nearby river, reported Berita Harian.
Rescue personnel from the Pandan Indah and Ampang Fire and Rescue Stations were immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call at 10.12am about the group from the Taman Bimbingan Kanak-Kanak (TABIKA) under the Community Development Department (KEMAS).
"The water level rose to waist height in some areas, affecting four houses and a KEMAS kindergarten," said Selangor JBPM Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar.
The firefighters rescued all 21 children and their teachers
Residents of the surrounding homes were also instructed to move to the village headman's hall for safety. No injuries were reported during the rescue operation.
"The water levels in the affected area have since begun to recede," Ahmad Mukhlis added.
