A man has admitted to murdering and robbing a woman to obtain money to attend a Harimau Malaya football match in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Mancha Ata said the 23-year-old suspect confessed to murdering and stealing the victim's jewellery, including a gold bracelet and gold earrings, which he intended to pawn, reported Berita Harian.

The suspect, who is currently in remand, also led the police to a location in Tabuan Jaya, Kuching, where the victim's body was dumped.

It is understood that the suspect needed the money to watch Harimau Malaya compete against Cambodia in the ASEAN Mitsubishi Electric Cup on 8 December.

On 5 December, Nurul Asikin Lan, 26, was reported missing after reportedly going out with a man she had just met

Mancha revealed that Nurul Asikin's family could not identify the victim's body due to its decomposed state.

The police are currently awaiting the results of a DNA test on 22 December to confirm the body's identity.

It is believed that Nurul Asikin's disappearance and the murder are connected.
