A man who was caught on camera touching a woman's behind at a supermarket in Selayang last week has been charged in court

According to Bernama, Irwan Iesa, 38, was accused of using criminal force to outrage the modesty of the 38-year-old victim by deliberately touching her buttocks with the palm of his right hand at the premises at around 2pm on 4 June.

A video of the incident, caught on CCTV, went viral on X, with an account urging those with information about the man to come forward.

The police confirmed on 7 June that the victim had lodged a report and that the case was being investigated.

The accused, an e-hailing driver, pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court yesterday, 18 June

He claimed trial to the charge after it was read out to him before Magistrate Aina Azahra Ariffin.

The charge under Section 354 of the Penal Code carries a maximum of 10 years' imprisonment, a fine, or whipping, or any two of such punishments upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Izzat Amir Idham urged the court to set bail at RM7,000 with one surety

However, Gan Sing Gee from the National Legal Aid Foundation, who represented the accused, requested a lower bail.

The New Straits Times quoted Gan as saying that the accused's wife is heavily pregnant and could not afford the proposed bail sum.

He added that Irwan said he had accidentally bumped into the victim on the day of the incident.

The court granted bail at RM5,000 with one surety and set 10 August for re-mention.
