An Instagram Reel of a man from China chowing down on a burger filled with beetle pupae is making the rounds

The video, posted on the Chinese food creator's page, eaters.cn, shows the man revealing burger buns stuffed with insects resembling beetle pupae. The beetle pupae appear to have been fried and salted.

Eaters.cn is a page that showcases audacious and weird foods that its hosts eat.

Described as a mukbang video, it shows the man taking several big bites of the burger, enjoying himself immensely.

In case you're wondering, humans consume 344 types of beetle larvae globally

Larvae are a stage of an insect's lifespan before it undergoes metamorphosis. According to the EU Food Safety Agency, yellow mealworms are safe for human consumption and also nutritious. 

In the case of the beetle pupae, we're not sure if they are actually safe for consumption.

That said, according to Backpack, a website dedicated to backpackers, a good rule of thumb is to avoid brightly coloured, hairy, and stinky insects.
