An Indonesian man had to pretend to marry his own cousin to save his family from embarrassment after calling off his engagement to his real fiancée three days before the wedding

The man, Ryan Dono, revealed the matter after he received a lot of social media hate caused by his ex-fiancée who claimed that he broke off the engagement because he wanted to marry another woman, reported Kosmo.

According to Ryan, he called off the engagement with his former fiancée, Yessy, after she requested a housing grant as a dowry at the last minute.

Ryan and his family then decided to throw a fake wedding ceremony with one of his own cousins to cover up the family's embarrassment.

When the ceremony took place, the invited guests had no idea that the 'bride' was not actually Ryan's wife, but was instead a substitute 'actor' for the bride role

"My mother advised that we go ahead with the ceremony that had been planned to safeguard the family from humiliation. I also did not question the plan," he said.

Ryan added that the ceremony's objective remained, one of which was to also cover Yessy's shame. However, the woman herself decided to expose Ryan's family on social media after she was 'abandoned' by them.

"I already told her to not make a big deal out of the wedding. In the end, [she's] the one who's ashamed," said Ryan's mother.

The groom went on to say that despite his sadness from being unable to continue his marriage with Yessy, he still tried to remain firm

"I tried to persist because I didn't want my parents to see me sad. I tried to be patient in front of the guests, but at the same time, I was quite unhappy," said Ryan.

"In my little heart, I hold no animosity [against Yessy]. No matter how much she had insulted me, I remained calm and tried my best to stay silent."
