The Malaysian Meteorological Department (METMalaysia) has forecasted dry and hot weather conditions with temperatures exceeding 35°C in Peninsula Malaysia and Sabah over the next seven days
METMalaysia released the significant weather forecast on Wednesday, 13 March.
Meanwhile, it warned that Sarawak may experience thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds. These conditions are expected to occur in the afternoon and may persist until the next morning.
"This forecast is based on our weather model analysis, with wind concentration expected to occur in Sarawak until Friday, 15 March," it said.
The weather department has also issued a Level 1 heatwave warning for eight locations in the northern region of Peninsula Malaysia
In a subsequent statement yesterday, METMalaysia said the affected locations are Padang Terap, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Sik, and Baling in Kedah; Hulu Perak in Perak; and the entire state of Perlis.
A Level 1 heatwave warning means temperatures are expected to exceed 35°C and reach up to 37°C for at least three consecutive days.
The hot and dry spell in Malaysia is expected to last until the end of March
METMalaysia has advised the public to refer to its website or social media channels to stay up to date with the latest weather information and warnings.
