Muhyiddin To Become The First Former Prime Minister To Be Charged With Sedition

The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairperson is set to be charged under Section 4(1) of the Sedition Act, according to Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, reported the New Straits Times.

Muhyiddin will be charged at the Gua Musang Sessions Court tomorrow morning, 27 August.

During a speech at a Nenggiri by-election ceramah in Kelantan on 15 August, he had questioned Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah's decision during his tenure as the 16th Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Muhyiddin had claimed that he was denied an opportunity to be sworn in as the 10th prime minister despite having the support of 115 members of parliament following the 15th General Election.

However, the PN chairperson did not mention that Sultan Abdullah had offered him the opportunity to form a coalition government with Pakatan Harapan, which the Pagoh member of parliament rejected.

In a strongly worded statement, the Crown Prince of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah criticised Muhyiddin for allegedly manipulating facts to cast doubt on Sultan Abdullah's impartiality.

According to Tengku Hassanal, Muhyiddin had belittled the role of his father, Sultan Abdullah.

"His statement also appears immature, as if he still cannot accept that he was not appointed as the prime minister," Tengku Hassanal said, adding that Muhyiddin's comments were not only misleading but also aimed at undermining public confidence in the Malay Rulers and creating division among the people.
