Malaysians will have the opportunity to witness the largest supermoon of the year at 5.09pm today, 13 July
According to the Malaysian Space Agency (MYSA), supermoons are the biggest and brightest full moons of the year.
A supermoon looks larger because it will be at its closest point in its orbit around Earth, a point known as perigee, with the distance being about 357,263km away.

Supermoons generally appear 14% bigger and 30% brighter than when the moon is at its farthest point away from Earth
You can see view supermoons unaided. However, a pair of binoculars are recommended for a better view.
Observing the supermoon away from bright city lights is also better for viewers to appreciate the phenomenon.

Also, if it's cloudy in the evening today, fret not
According to NASA, while supermoons are best seen at moonrise and moonset, the moon will appear full for about three days.
This also isn't the last supermoon of the year. The last supermoon of 2022 will occur on 11 August and will be the final supermoon in this year's set of four.
