A Rapid Penang bus driver has won praise for helping a wheelchair-bound passenger get safely off his bus and cross the street

The kind gesture was caught on video by another passenger, Cecilia, who submitted it to community Facebook group Penang Indian Networks.

The 56-second video shows the bus driver, fondly known as Captain Surendran, not only assisting the handicapped passenger to alight the bus — as it is the bus driver's responsibility to handle the bus ramp — but also pushing him safely across a busy four-lane road before quickly walking back to continue on his morning route.

Cecilia wrote that she wanted to share the video to express her appreciation for Captain Surendran's care and professionalism in doing his job

"His commitment to delivering the best service possible is truly praiseworthy. I want to express my gratitude for his great efforts in keeping passengers safe and secure," she said.

"Attached is a video which I recorded to show just how hardworking, responsible, and professional he is. Thank you for being an amazing bus captain!" she stated.

The bus driver has also been acknowledged by Rapid Penang, who reposted Cecilia's video on their official Facebook page.
