Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that the registration fees for public universities must no longer exceed RM1,500

During the tabling of Budget 2024 today, 13 October, Anwar, who is also the current Prime Minister of Malaysia, stated that the government will not allow any public universities to deny underprivileged students the right to register at their institutions.

"If a student is facing a financial problem, universities must still register them regardless, and inform the government about the student's status," said Anwar.

He added that in order to assist underprivileged students, the government will now limit the registration fees for all public universities to RM1,500.

Furthermore, Anwar stressed that existing university students who are unable to pay their new semester's fees will no longer be barred from enrolling in classes

He went on to say that students are now able to pay their semester fees after they have completed their course registration.

"Universities must first consider the financial status of its students before imposing any rules on fee payment," Anwar added.
