The school is also being investigated for allowing the dinner event to be hosted in its auditorium.
The Tanah Merah district council in Kelantan has initiated a probe into a dinner event hosted by a gold mining company, which allegedly featured a provocative belly dance performance over the weekend
The council is also investigating a Chinese school (SJKC) for allowing the dinner event to be hosted in its auditorium, according to China Press.
Kelantan Local Government, Housing, Health, and Environment committee chairperson Hilmi Abdullah said the event's organisers and school representatives would be summoned to provide statements.
"It is understood that the dinner hosted by the mining company took place yesterday, 22 December, in a hall of an SJKC in Tanah Merah," Harian Metro quoted him as saying.
According to Hilmi, they violated Section 6 of the Entertainment and Places of Entertainment Control Enactment 1998, which carries a fine of RM20,000 or up to five years' imprisonment, or both.
No permit was issued for the event
"We were informed that the majority of attendees were miners from mainland China working in mining operations around Sokor gold mining area in Tanah Merah, as well as employees of the company and other guests.
"There were also local Muslim residents employed by the company among the attendees," Hilmi said, adding that the council regrets the organisers' decision to use a school hall for such entertainment.
