Selangor To Enforce Face Masks On All Restaurant & Hawker Workers Starting January 2023
Authorities will impose compound fines on establishments that do not follow the directive.
Beginning 1 January 2023, employees at food and beverage (F&B) establishments in Selangor must wear face masks
According to a Facebook post by the Selayang Municipal Council (MPS), the decision will be binding on all cooks and food handlers, whether they operate in hawker centres or restaurants.
Those who disobey this rule, which is also necessary for getting a business licence, would be subject to compound fines, MPS stated in the post.
The Kajang Municipal Council (MPKj) said earlier this month that starting in 2023, it would require hawkers and restaurant employees to wear face masks.
Citing Selangorkini, Free Malaysia Today reported that MPKj council president Najmuddin Jemain said the implementation was decided on 7 September during the state government's council meeting.
"This is among the initiatives to ensure that workers who handle food and drinks are accustomed to wearing masks as a means to ensure cleanliness in eateries," said Najmuddin.
