A Singaporean Grab driver was allegedly assaulted by a woman during a ride from Ang Mo Kio to Toa Payoh at 9.30am on Wednesday, 8 March

The Grab driver took to a confession account on Instagram on Wednesday, 15 March, to express his disappointment about the ride in question.

According to his submission, the driver had picked up a female passenger, a Chinese national estimated to be in her 40s, from Ang Mo Kio. Her destination was somewhere in Toa Payoh.

When she entered the car, she spoke to the driver in Mandarin, a language he didn't understand. The driver then began the journey, following the route displayed on his navigation app.

As they approached her destination, the woman began yelling at him, still in Mandarin. The driver guessed that the woman was upset because she said he took a longer route, which caused her to be late.

The journey would take an estimated 16 minutes.

The driver said the woman hit his arm, causing him to abruptly step on the breaks

The man then tried to explain the situation to the lady in English, but to no avail. He continued the journey and arrived at her destination, despite her anger towards the situation.

As he opened the door for her, the woman began hitting and scratching the driver's arm once again, causing him to rush into his car to drive off.

Once he got away, he noticed his arm had sustained injuries from the lady's fingernails.

He then lodged a report to Grab and the police, before visiting a doctor to treat his wounds.

Grab has since informed him they will be contacting the passenger for an explanation, and has ultimately suspended the woman's account

According to MSNews, a Grab spokesperson reported that they have "reached out to the driver-partner to provide assistance".

They added that they have also temporarily suspended the woman's account, and that Grab does not tolerate violence of any kind.

"Grab does not tolerate any kind of inappropriate behaviour. Ensuring that all who use our platform feel safe is very important to us, and we urge everyone to treat each other with respect," said Grab, as reported by the news portal.
