No Cameras, Tight Security & 70 Viewers Allowed For Terengganu's First Public Caning

The offender was convicted of repeated khalwat offences since 2023.

Mohd Affendi Awang will face public caning after being convicted of repeatedly committing khalwat tomorrow, 27 December

The caning will take place after Friday prayers at the Al Muktafi Billah Shah Mosque in Terengganu, according to Bernama.

It was also reported that police will deploy 40 officers and personnel to ensure safety and a smooth process.

Only 70 people will be allowed to enter the room where the whipping will take place

Kuala Terengganu district police chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor warned that severe measures would be taken against any individuals or groups attempting to provoke officers or the offender during the caning.

He also advised those attending the mosque to leave immediately after completing their Friday prayers, as congregating outside or around the mosque could disrupt the proceedings.

The 70 individuals permitted to witness the caning are prohibited from bringing any devices, such as mobile phones or video recorders, as recording the event is strictly forbidden

"Any recording is not allowed. The police will conduct checks to ensure that no electronic or telecommunication devices are brought into the punishment room.

"The sentence has been decided. I ask all parties to respect the law and not cause chaos," Azli stated.
