It is understood that the crashed Beechcraft Model 390 (Premier 1), registration number N28JV, did not send out an emergency signal to Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, the airport it had intended to land at.

Authorities were unaware of the crash until personnel at the Subang Air Traffic Control Tower saw smoke rising from the crash site.

Shortly after the crash, videos of the burning aircraft went viral on social media. Information about the tragedy was initially scarce right after the incident, until statements were made by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook.

Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said yesterday that the crash resulted in at least 10 casualties — eight individuals who were onboard the aircraft and two road users.

The authorities have since been working around the clock to identify the victims.

32-year-old Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh was the motorcyclist who died on Persiaran Elmina.

Hafiz worked as a food delivery rider for foodpanda, as confirmed by the company in a Facebook post published today, 18 August.

The company described Hafiz as their top rider and expressed their heartfelt condolences to his family, stating, "We are sorry to inform you that our rider, Muhamad Hafiz Muhamad Salleh, was involved in the plane crash in (City of) Elmina yesterday.

"Condolences from us at foodpanda to the family of the deceased. Al-Fatihah."

Hafiz's sister, Norhikmah Muhammad Salleh, said her family members couldn't immediately reach Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital (HTAR) in Klang to identify his body yesterday. They hail from Sungai Petani, Kedah, as reported by New Straits Times.

"My mother and father told us to remain calm and asked us to pray for all his affairs to be made easier.

"We have arrived at Sungai Bakap, Penang and are heading to HTAR in Klang to identify my brother's remains.

"His body will be brought home to be buried at Taman Sidam Kiri, Sungai Petani, as soon as all procedures are completed," Norhikmah told Berita Harian last night.

According to a Buletin TV3 report published today, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Tan Sri Razarudin Husain confirmed that the other road user who died was a Grab driver.

"The Grab driver had actually stopped taking passenger bookings at the time of the incident. We have checked with the e-hailing company and were informed that the Grab driver was no longer picking up new passengers during that time," Razarudin was quoted as saying.

The driver has been identified as Sharipuddin Shaari, reported Harian Metro.

The 53-year-old driver was believed to be driving a Nissan Almera during the incident.

He is survived by his 43-year-old wife and two children, aged nine and 16. Prior to the incident, at 2.15pm yesterday, Sharipuddin phoned his wife, saying he would stop by City of Elmina for some refreshments, reported Sinar Harian.

"The last time my father called, my mother said he made a stop to get some drinks, saying, 'I will be home in a moment,'" said Muhammad Sharul, the victim's teenage son.

Sharul said his dad gave him and his sister two photos of himself last week and told them to keep them with care.

According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, the private jet was carrying six passengers and two crew members.

The pilots of the aircraft were:
– Shahrul Kamal Roslan, 41, pilot in command (PIC)
– Heikal Aras Abdul Azim, 45, pilot second in command (SIC)

Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chief executive officer Datuk Norazman Mahmud said both pilots were experienced and had valid licences, reported New Straits Times.

According to Harian Metro, when reporters met 67-year-old Mahanom Ismail at HTAR's forensic department after she learned that her son was the pilot of the ill-fated aircraft, she appeared grief-stricken and was trying to hold back tears.

She recalled that last time she spoke to her son was on 24 June, before he underwent surgery at Tuanku Mizan Military Hospital in Kuala Lumpur.

"A day before his intestine and gallbladder surgery, he contacted me to ask how I was. Before ending the call, he said, 'I (Adik) love you so much, Mama'," she said, adding that Shahrul's youngest son is very close and affectionate with her.

Prior to flying private jets, Sharul worked at Malaysia Airlines (MAS) and Etihad Airways. He is survived by his wife and four sons, aged between three and 12.

SIC Heikal's wife, Christine Yong, posted a one-minute montage video on Instagram today, reminiscing about all the moments he spent with her and their children.

Yong, who works as a stewardess, shared a screenshot of the WhatsApp message she sent to Heikal yesterday after she learned about the crash, asking whether he was okay.

"You never replied," Yong lamented.

"You don't die. You just fly higher. But the kids miss you so much," she wrote at the end of the video.

She also urged members of the public to not speculate on the incident, as "this is impacting the kids and families, who are going through hard times this very moment".

Pahang State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin said that Johari Harun was in Langkawi to meet Pahang Menteri Besar (MB) Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, reported Bernama.

"At first, I was confused because there are many Joharis (in Pahang). But when I saw the identity card number (that indicated that he was born in) 1970, it means (the victim) was 53 years old. We expected it was Johari Harun who died," he said.

Sharkar lamented that Johari's death is a great loss, as he was a hard worker who became a state executive council member (exco) even though it was the first time he ran as a representative.

The atmosphere at Johari's residence in Section U16, Shah Alam is gloomy today, reported Kosmo!. It is understood that the family members of the Pelangai assemblyperson are awaiting the authorities' full report before obtaining permission to bring his body home for burial.

The Transport Minister said the CVR was sent to be analysed this morning and that all investigations would be conducted locally, reported New Straits Times.

Loke said his ministry's Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will report directly to him.

"We will make the results public as soon as the analysis is concluded.

"Everything will be done transparently. We will not hide anything. All facts will be made public," said Loke today.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim offered his condolences to the victims' families during his visit to HTAR today. It is understood that the atmosphere at the forensic department was sombre.

He said the federal government will provide all the necessary support and assistance to the victims' next-of-kin.

All 10 bodies arrived at the hospital at about 1.22am today.
