Two dogs from the Fire and Rescue Department's K9 Unit, Frankie and Denti, have been deployed to assist in the search and rescue (SAR) operation for the victim of the sinkhole incident at Jalan Masjid India

According to Bernama, the English Springer Spaniel and Labrador Retriever were brought to the sinkhole at 5pm yesterday, 27 August, to help the team locate the Indian tourist, Vijaya Lakshmi, who remains missing.

Both dogs entered the sinkhole with their handlers and conducted searches for about 10 to 15 minutes.

However, as with the first day of the incident on Friday, 23 August, they did not uncover any new leads before the operation was postponed due to heavy rain.

Frankie and Denti won hearts for their involvement during the Batang Kali landslide incident in December 2022, which saw over 31 victims being recovered during the SAR operation

The tracker dogs, who have been on the force for seven years, were also flown to Turkiye to assist in SAR operations after the devastating earthquake that claimed approximately 50,000 lives in February this year.
