A rumoured sinkhole that appeared along Jalan Sultan Ismail in the city centre today, 23 September, has been determined to be a burst pipe incident, according to city officials

Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif has dismissed claims that the depression in the road was a sinkhole.

"According to reports from Air Selangor, there is a water pipe leak and repair work is underway. It is not a sinkhole," she told the New Straits Times.

Earlier today, a video showing the inundated road went viral on social media, with netizens speculating that another sinkhole had appeared.

Air Selangor began repair work of the burst pipe at 9.15am today, and the work is expected to be completed by 9.15pm tonight

Areas possibly affected by water disruption include Jalan Pinang, Jalan Stonor, Jalan P Ramlee, Jalan Kia Peng, Jalan Perak, Jalan Conlay, Jalan Sultan Sulaiman, Changkat Kia Peng, Jalan Sultan Ismail, and Persiaran Stonor.
