Hari Raya Aidilfitri is an exciting festivity for children and students, as it's the time when they can eagerly collect duit Raya from relatives and friends

However, Muslims are reminded not to belittle or complain about the amount of duit Raya given during Syawal.

In a Facebook post, the Negeri Sembilan State Mufti Department emphasised that the original intention of giving duit Raya is to share joy and gratitude with the recipient.

"Do not belittle your neighbour's gift, even if it's just a firsin (a small part of a goat's front ankle or a part of the bone with less flesh).

"Based on the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad SAW, we are prohibited from belittling anything given by our neighbour, including the amount of duit raya received," it said.

Prophet Muhammad SAW also forbade belittling any gift from anyone

"If I were invited to eat the foreleg or shin (of a goat or similar), I would accept the invitation. If the foreleg or shin is given to me as a gift, I would accept it," the mufti department said, quoting a hadith narrated by Al-Bukhari.

The department further emphasised that while giving duit Raya is encouraged, visiting relatives to strengthen kinship ties is more important and should be prioritised during Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

It also reminded Muslims to uphold family ties and practise generosity, as these actions not only strengthen bonds but also foster unity within the community.
