A video showing marathon participants helping an injured comrade at the 2023 Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) over the weekend has garnered praise on social media

The video, uploaded by TikTok user @aimandope, shows a runner stopping in his tracks to check on a limping participant — clearly in pain as he tightly holds another man's hand for support — as others continue making their way on the 42km route around Kuala Lumpur.

In the short 30-second video, a good Samaritan can be seen whipping a bottle out of his pocket and getting down on his knees to help spray muscle pain relief on the limping man's left leg, while the other participant thanks him.

The small kind gesture has since warmed the hearts of netizens

"How beautiful is Malaysia? Many of our people are so kind-hearted. You guys are the best," commented a TikTok user.

An Instagram user said, "He already (had a muscle spray) prepared. The intention to help was definitely there. Respect."

Meanwhile, someone else pointed out that the man supporting the limping participant should also be commended for forgoing his own running time.

"Look at the way they're holding hands, that's truly a friend through thick and thin. He was willing to wait despite the cut-off time (for the marathon). I would love to have a friend like this," said the netizen.

The 2023 KLSCM Full Marathon was held on early Sunday morning, 1 October

According to the official KLSCM website, over 40,000 runners gathered at Dataran Merdeka over the weekend to participate in the event after a pandemic-imposed hiatus of three years.

While many participants joined for fun, the distance running event is also a competitive affair. Prizes are awarded to the swiftest runners and those who successfully complete the race within a specified time frame.
