This is fantastic news for gamers because it means there's a monitor out there that perfectly suits their needs and budget. Acer's latest release, the Nitro KG241Y, is a prime example of this.
Acer has consistently delivered quality gaming products, and the Nitro KG241Y continues that tradition. It strikes an excellent balance between affordability and performance, making it an appealing choice for gamers who want a great gaming experience without breaking the bank.
Here's what we think about it:
Right off the bat, the design of the monitor was highly convincing

The Acer Nitro KG1 gaming monitor arrived in a compact cardboard box, with the base, stand, and panel neatly packaged for protection.
The base and stand are both made of sturdy polycarbonate with a matte black finish, featuring the signature angular design of the Nitro series.
The hexagonal base is superior to the typical two-pronged leg design as it saves precious desk real estate. The stand also includes a cable management hook for a cleaner setup and allows for some tilt adjustment.

On the back of the Nitro KG1, you'll find a small joystick-like button that lets you navigate the monitor's settings menu. The back panel also houses a variety of ports such as the power port, HDMI port, DisplayPort, and an audio jack for connecting your devices.

Another amazing feature is the slim bezels accentuating the full HD, 23.8 inch Vertical Alignment (VA) display. The VA panel truly shines in the gaming department thanks to its vibrant colours as well as high refresh rate.
This monitor runs at a whopping 180Hz refresh rate, making it the perfect monitor for esports titles such as VALORANT or Dota 2. It's also equipped with AMD FreeSync for buttery smooth gaming.

The main attraction of the monitor is its impressive display

The KG241Y's colour accuracy is pretty decent. As a VA panel, it doesn't quite match the colour richness and intensity of a higher-end screen, but then again, it's more than enough for your gaming needs.
While colours are clear and details are sharp, they may appear a bit less vibrant than on other monitor types such as those seen on IPS panels. IPS panels, or In-Plane Switching panels, offer accurate colours and have wider viewing angles. This is also reflected in its colour gamut, which covers 99% of the sRGB spectrum but falls short of the wider DCI-P3 gamut preferred by professional content creators. In other words, the colours are less accurate for designing or professional work.
The screen brightness is sufficient for indoor use, but its limited peak brightness means it's best to avoid placing it near a window.

Compared to more expensive IPS panels, the Acer KG241Y does suffer slightly from narrower viewing angles, with colours looking washed out when viewed from extreme angles.
However, keep in mind that this monitor is not catered for content creators, and gamers will rarely face the issue when gaming.

What makes the Acer Nitro KG1 a great gaming monitor is its slew of features despite the low price point

The Acer Nitro KG1 monitor offers features that are commonly found on more expensive monitors. For example, the hexagonal base allows you to position your keyboard closer to the screen for a more immersive experience, or better viewing angles. It even has holes for your VESA mount.
The stand also includes a built-in cable management hook, which are usually only seen on more expensive monitors. The monitor also has a built-in speaker that gets the job done, and that is a huge plus in our books.
Should you consider the Acer Nitro KG241Y? Here's what we think:

Priced at only RM379, it is really hard to find a better alternative at this price range. If you're a budget-concsious gamer looking for their first monitor, then the Acer KG241Y ticks all the right boxes.
Even if you already have a gaming monitor at home, the Acer KG241Y is a great option to consider as your second monitor.
