Lumi News App Users Surge To 200,000 & Overtake Malaysia's Industry Giants
Lumi News offers exciting packages for advertisers looking to amplify their stories and reach diverse Malaysian audiences.
Lumi News, Malaysia's #1 news aggregator, has achieved a significant milestone, becoming the top news application in Malaysia both in rankings and active user base
The app has dominated the #1 position in the News & Magazines category on Google Play Malaysia since 2022 and has now surpassed long-established competitors to become the most-used news app in the country.
The news app's success comes amidst fierce competition in the digital news space, with Lumi News overtaking several well-established local and international news apps in terms of new downloads and active users as seen on data.ai. In the last 90 days alone, the news app saw a 10% growth in its active user base, an increase that propelled it to claim the #1 ranking.

"We're thrilled to see Lumi News resonating so strongly with Malaysian readers," said Judith Yeoh, CEO of Lumi News. "Despite entering the market just three years ago, Lumi News has grown quickly to become a household name, by connecting with Malaysians through our product offering and building a strong social media following. We're excited to see this momentum reflected in our app's increasing popularity. This is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our team!"

Not only has the news app dominated the top spot in Google Play Malaysia's rankings and gathered the most active user base — it has also emerged as the most downloaded news app in Malaysia for 2024 to date
With over 73,000 downloads since January, Lumi News has outpaced established competitors, solidifying its position as the go-to news app for Malaysians.
"We've been working hard to make the app smarter and more intuitive through machine learning," Yeoh explained. "We want our users to love diving into news they care about, while gaining awareness on topics they might be missing out on, so they don't get stuck in an echo chamber.
"The app has gotten pretty good at suggesting news you might like based on what you usually read and our notifications are tailored to your interests too. All this helps people stay in the loop without getting swamped with too much information."
Almost 70% more users on the Lumi News app are reading at least one article every day, with news consumption increasing by 14% as a result of machine learning efforts and aggressive enhancements. Beyond that, the app's short-form video feed, or 'Shorts', has also seen impressive growth, with viewership climbing nearly 20% in just the last month.
