Dance enthusiasts will definitely know Astro Battleground, the country's biggest street dance competition that brings together the nation's hottest dance talents

The beloved competition is back with its latest edition, Battleground Malaysia: Road To Gold, and it's set to be bigger and more exciting than ever!

Premiering on 29 September, the six-episode series will air on various Astro channels every Friday at 10pm. It will be hosted in three languages by Sherry Al-Hadad, Dennis Yin, and Saint TFC. Meanwhile, multi-talented actor, rapper, and host, Zizan Razak, is one of the judges in the series.

Battleground Malaysia: Road to Gold is a joint initiative with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, powered by the new breath of Rakan Muda lifestyle brands, Rakan Ekspresi and Rakan Muzik.

Contestants have been shortlisted from hundreds of applications across the nation, who wowed the public and judges at an on-ground audition held at AEON Mall Shah Alam in July.

The competition centres around four eminent dance captains who will be recruiting the contestants into crews of 10 based on their dance skills

The four captains are:
- Lego Sam, two-time SEA Games Breaking Gold medalist
- Khenobu, Malaysian B-Boy SEA Games contender
- Danny Lee from the music group 3P (Threee Production)
- Seven, champion of Astro Battleground 2010 & 2011

Through various dance challenges, they'll be testing the contestants' individual skills and shaping them into a cohesive unit.

The show also focuses on bringing dancers from different backgrounds together for street dance. Only the strongest dancers will survive the competition.

The grand finale will be aired LIVE on 3 November, where only the strongest dance crews left will compete in front of international judges who are dance experts

The winning team stands to receive a grand prize of RM100,000, while the first runner-up team takes home RM30,000.

Additionally, individuals in the winning team will go head-to-head against each other, with the best individual dancer winning an additional prize of RM25,000.

YB Hannah Yeoh, Minister of Youth and Sports, and Agnes Rozario, Astro's Director of Content, shared their thoughts on collaborating to bring Battleground Malaysia: Road to Gold to life

"Breaking is the latest sport to be introduced at the Paris 2024 Olympics. By partnering with Astro on Battleground Malaysia: Road to Gold, the Ministry of Youth and Sports is committed to helping gifted Malaysian youths further strengthen their talents in dance and set them on the road to gold on the global stage," said Yeoh.

"The ministry hopes that Battleground Malaysia: Road to Gold will be a platform to discover talented Malaysian youth, as well as empower them via opportunities, mentorship, and training given by skilled professionals, with the aspiration of nurturing the next generation of Malaysian athletes that can shine on the world stage," she added.

Meanwhile, Rozario shared, "We are honoured to have this opportunity to discover and develop Malaysia's next dance talents together with the Ministry of Youth and Sports via Battleground Malaysia: Road to Gold.

"This exciting reality show format tests participants to their limits, by challenging them to different dance tasks and being mentored by experienced captains who share their knowledge in order to push them to the next level. We also look forward to the grand finale to crown the winner in front of a live audience including Astro customers through our Astro Rewards initiatives."
