"Give Them Some Privacy!" - A Group Of Students Ran Into Monitor Lizards 'Hugging' In IIUM
It looked like a scene from the movie 'Godzilla'.
A group of students from International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) had an intriguing encounter with two monitor lizards at their university parking lot on Sunday, 25 July
In a video that has since gone viral, the two monitor lizards can be seen "hugging" each other tightly, until they fall to the ground. They then get back up and continue their embrace.
The video tweeted by Adriana has since been viewed 682,000 times and received over 8,200 retweets at the time of writing.
Adriana said they were on their way to the on-campus ATM when they saw the monitor lizards in the parking area of the IIUM Cultural Activities Centre (CAC)
She told SAYS that said all of them had mixed reactions upon seeing the monitor lizards; one was scared and the other was excited.
"I thought it looked cute and [was] wondering what the both of them are doing standing there," Adriana said.
Their questions about what the reptiles were up to could be heard in the background of the video. "Give them some privacy!" one of them said.
Although it may seem like they were "hugging", male Malayan water monitors usually wrestle each other over females and territory. The one that pushes the other onto the ground wins.
Needless to say, netizens were thoroughly entertained by the video, with many claiming that it looked like a scene from the movie Godzilla
This netizen said the reptiles are training for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
One user reprimanded them for not following COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).
"Please follow SOP, don't hug. COVID is real," the user tweeted.
Another netizen tweeted, "When you and your friend live far from each other and haven't met for a long time because of [Movement Control Order]."
This graduation tweet is giving final year students all kinds of feels.
"The lizards are probably going to graduate; they are not going to meet after this, of course they are sad. Same energy here," the netizen said.
