Chinese Badminton Players Go Viral For Paris Pre-Wedding Photos After Olympic Engagement
Love is in the air at the Paris Olympics.
Chinese athletes Liu Yuchen and Huang Yaqiong went viral in China after posing for pre-wedding photos in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, following their engagement at the end of their Olympic journey
Their proposal came as a surprise last Friday, 2 August, when Liu, a badminton men's doubles player, got down on one knee to propose to Huang at the La Chapelle Arena after she won the gold medal in the badminton mixed doubles event.
With shock on her face, Yaqiong quickly said yes. The touching moment was displayed on the stadium's video board, drawing applause from the crowd.
Below is a video of the proposal:
During an interview programme hosted by Douyin, China's TikTok equivalent, the engaged couple posed for pre-wedding photos with the Eiffel Tower in the background while answering questions about their proposal
The couple wore light grey attire, with Huang donning a veil in her hair.
The duo kissed for the camera, with Liu appearing embarrassed and shy during the photo session, prompting the show hosts to tease him.
"You were so brave when you proposed to Huang in front of the whole world [at the Olympic stadium]. Now, you are embarrassed to kiss your fiancé for our audience in China," one of the hosts teased.
Huang confirmed earlier that Liu was nervous, as his hands were cold and sweaty while holding hers for the photos.
