Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik shared that they were inspired by Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan, who made history as Malaysia's first women's doubles pair to reach the Olympic semi-finals

Speaking to the Badminton World Federation after their win against India's world No. 5 Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy yesterday, 1 August, Soh said they are happy for Tan and Thinaah's advance to the semi-finals.

"They won earlier today (1 August), and it was quite motivating to witness. Their match was very exciting too. That made us excited for our match.

"We were quite nervous as you know this is the Olympics. They gave us supportive words before our match.

"Aaron and I just want to keep going in the tournament," the New Straits Times quoted the 26-year-old men's doubles shuttler as saying.

Meanwhile, Chia admitted he was nervous before the match, as they had lost to Shetty-Rankireddy in their last three encounters outside the Olympics

"I was nervous and felt some pressure during the match. This is because we had lost to them on several occasions.

"However, we were motivated to take them down this time, and I am glad we have achieved it," said the 27-year-old.

Chia-Soh advanced to the semi-finals at the Paris Olympics after defeating the Indian pair with scores of 13-21, 21-14, and 21-16 in 63 minutes.
