Pearly-Thinaah Become First M'sian Women Doubles Pair To Enter Olympics Semi-Finals

The duo played a phenomenal game against the South Korean reigning bronze medallists. Congratulations!

National women's doubles pair Pearly Tan and Thinaah Muralitharan just defeated reigning bronze medallists Kim So-yeong and Kong Hee-yong of South Korea in the Paris 2024 Olympics quarter-finals!

Pearly-Thinaah, ranked 13th in the world, played a phenomenal game against the world number 10 pair, winning 21-12, 21-13.

According to The Star, no Malaysian women's doubles pair has ever reached the semi-finals in the Olympics before this.

The Malaysian pair will now face China's four-time world champions Chen Qingchen and Jia Yifan, again, in the semi-finals

Pearly-Thinaah went down 17-21, 20-22 to Chen-Jia in their first group match on Saturday, 27 July, at the Porte De La Chapelle Arena in Paris.

However, they managed to advance to the knockout stage by defeating Japan's Mayu Matsumoto-Wakana Nagahara 18-21, 21-15, 21-16 and Indonesia's Apriyani Rahayu-Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti 21-18, 21-9.
