It looks like the street art trend in Malaysia is showing no signs of slowing down. Few weeks back, we featured Russian artist, Julia Volchkova's remarkable work in Penang.

The ‘Bestnya Malaysiaku’ Art Wall Competition last year was responsible for these murals popping up around SS2.

Now, the trend is making its way down south to the small and quiet little town of Kluang in Johor - and the murals look just as nice as the ones in PJ and Penang!

The town is largely known for its kaya toast and aromatic coffee.

In conjunction with the 'Kluang Kreatif1020' event, local artists were asked to showcase their talent at an old and gritty alley in downtown Kluang

The event was organised by the town council of Kluang as an initiative to beautify the streets to make them more scenic for locals and tourists alike.

"The pieces involving two walls in an alley were used as a canvas for locals to demonstrate their talent in painting and drawing," said Ismail Abu, head of the Kluang Town Council.

A total of 24 murals were painted on the 100-meter long alley behind the iconic Jalan Teo Siew Khor

The name 'Kluang Kreatif1020' was selected to pay homage to the town's founding year of 1910. It also points out the town's advancement to 2020.

A wall mural could take up to 8 hours to complete, depending on the size and difficulty. Not forgetting the unpredictable weather conditions too!

Gunung Lambak is one of Kluang's most well-known hills. The place serves as a popular trekking destination for the locals and it has also become a must-visit getaway for tourists coming to Kluang. The mountain has two peaks. The higher one can normally be reached in less than two hours via several paths.

The event was held over the weekend, from 23 to 24 April. More locations will be beautified over the next few months. We can't wait to see the results!
